Submitted by slikers on Tuesday, 29 December 2009No Comment

It looks like the rumors that were leaked earlier regarding a Google branded Chrome OS netbook were indeed true. Google is planning to release atleast two sub $300 netbooks that will be powered by Chrome OS. These machines will sport 10.1 inches screen and will be powered by NVIDIA Tegra 2 platform. They’ll also feature 64 GB SSD, 2GB RAM, webcam, USB ports, GPS, WiFi, 3G and Bluetooth connectivity to go with it. Multitouch screens with GPS are also planned for high end models.

These machines are expected to go on sale in 2010 holiday season for an approx. price of 200-300 USD. Chrome OS was unveiled by Google to the public for the first time last month. Chrome OS represents Google’s view point of what an OS should be like in this era. It is an open source operating system, designed specifically for the netbooks market to provide them fast experience using reduced boot and startup time. Speed, security and simplicity are the main aspects of Chrome OS.

Pre-release Chrome OS images are already available for download, which you can go ahead and try out on a supported hardware. You can also follow the complete step-by-step guide posted here on How-to install Chrome OS as a VM in Windows 7
