Auburn superstar quarterback Cam Newton is under investigation from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (or NCAA) for the supposed soliciting of a six-figure payment when an Ole Miss former football player was contacted by Newton’s representative saying that Newton’s athletic services require financial support.
John Bond told ESPN that his former teammate and Newton’s representative Kenny Rogers approached him shortly after Newton visited Mississippi State University and told him that getting Newton on the football team would take $180, 000. Bond then contacted Ole Miss’ athletic director, Greg Byrne, who then contacted the NCAA who then decided to subject Newton to an investigation.
Newton’s father denies knowledge of Roger’s alleged solicitation and explained that if Rogers was indeed doing that, they absolutely never gave him any form of support and acquiescence.
