How to Downgrade iOS 4.3.1 to 4.2 and down

How to Downgrade iOS 4.3.1 to 4.2 and downApple iOS 4.3.1 for iOS devices been released. If you have upgraded iOS 4.3.1 and now wants to downgrade to 4.3, 4.2.1, 4.1 on your iPhone 4, and other Apple products, then follow your step by step guide which makes you enable to downgrade from iOS 4.3.1 to 4.3, 4.2.1, 4.1. Before downgrading your must save SHSH blobs for the respective firmware.

NOTE: This guide will only work if you have SHSH blobs saved for the respective firmware you downgrading to.

How to Downgrade iOS 4.3.1 to 4.3, 4.2.1, 4.1 on iPhone 4,iPhone 3GS, iPod touch 4g/3g, iPad 2/1g

STEP 1. Download the required old ipsw firmware files for your iOS device.

STEP 2. Now put your iOS device into DFU mode by following guide.

  • Connect your iOS device to your computer.
  • Turn it off.
  • Start iTunes.
  • Hold Power and Home buttons together for 10 seconds or so.
  • Release Power button but keep holding the Home button until your computer recognizes a new USB device.
  • iTunes will now recognize your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch.

STEP 3. Now change address to Saurik’s server (following below guide to change address).

  • Navigate to the path c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\ and locate “hosts” file.

Mac OS X users

Mac OS X users can get to “/etc/” directory by going through “Go –> Go to Folde” from Finder.

Now open the “hosts” file in Notepad (for Windows) and in TextEdit (for Mac OS X) or  and add the following and Save the file:

74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com

STEP 4. Now start iTunes and click on your iOS device icon from iTunes sidebar. After that press and hold Left “Shift” button on Windows or left “alt” (option) button on Mac OS X. And then click “Restore” button and release the button.

Here you will be asked to choose the location of your iOS 4.3, iOS 4.2 or iOS 4.1 firmware file. Now select the desired ipsw file and click on “Open” in order to restore your iPhone, iPod touch or iPad.

Wait a while here as iTunes is installing the requested firmware on your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch. You will also see installation progress bar on your iOS device. After installation your iOS device will restart automatically. Remember if iTunes shows some 1013 error messages, don’t bother simply ignore it.

Incase of this error,your iOS device will stuck on Recovery Mode, “Connect to iTunes” screen will be shown.

Now download and install TinyUmbrella (Mac / Windows). In order to exit your iOS device Recovery Mode simply click on “Exit Recovery” button after that your iOS device will restart. Last but not the least, you must now remove 74.208.105.171 gs.apple.com line from the host file so that you are prompted for future updates from Apple via iTunes.
